NuuMed numnahs are designed to fit and work with a saddle to ensure the highest levels of comfort for your horse. That has come from working with many people in the equestrian world to get it right – saddle makers, saddle fitters, riders, trainers and physiotherapists for example. Whatever NuuMed says about its own products, for you the customer, there is a bewildering choice of numnahs in the market place and the challenge is to choose the right one! We have our own checklist for product selection and we would suggest you use it as a basis for your next choice of numnah or saddlepad:

  • strap too high Does the numnah fit my saddle properly? Is it the right shape for the saddle flap? Is the flap long enough? This is particularly important when choosing a dressage numnah. Are the straps right for my saddle?
  • Does the numnah work with your saddle in terms of thickness? If a numnah is too thick, it will have a negative effect on a properly fitting saddle
  • pad on bindingIs it the right size for your saddle? You would be amazed at how many people don't know what size saddle they have! Are you thinking ahead? For example, if your horse has just come into work and has little top line, may be a pad which you can alter would offer better protection and value for money so you can adapt it as the horse's muscles build up
  • Is the saddlepad easy to keep clean? As well as looking better when clean, a dirty numnah or saddlepad can cause a lot of problems. NuuMed's products can be machine washed daily making life very easy.
  • Does the numnah conform to any guidelines for the discipline you are competing in?

And finally, if you have a favourite numnah you intend to use with your new saddle, let your saddle fitter know so he or she can take that into account with the saddle fit.
